Bo Pieper had tied the game early in the final frame.

For the first time in the series, Coquitlam scored the first goal of the game with Jace Hennig doing the honours. But Vernon rallied with three in the second, including two from Brendan Persley, to take a one-goal edge into the final frame.

Gordie Defiel made 35 saves for the win.

Coquitlam now has 10 days off before competing in the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup in Dauphin, Man. The top two teams there go to the RBC Cup, which will be hosted May 10-18
 by the Vernon Vipers.
