Huge game by Baylis boosts Carleton Place over Kemptville, 6-1

Behind a great game by Stephen Baylis, who had two goals and one assist, the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Kemptville 73s, 6-1.

Baylis' tallies came at 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and 11:33 into the first to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Kemptville faces elimination next time out.

Carleton Place pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.

The Canadians forced the 73s goalie Jacob Tugnutt to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Carleton Place was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances.

Others who scored for Carleton Place included Craig Pefley, who had two and Stephen Cooney and Evan Peterson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Larry Smith, who had three, Owen Stewart and Anthony McVeigh, who contributed one each, and Tyson Stewart and Andy Sturtz, who each chipped in two.

Kemptville had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

The 73s were led by Jesse Blais, who scored the team's only goal. Blais scored on the power play 4:18 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. A boarding penalty on Baylis had put Kemptville on the power play. Dean Galasso picked up the assist.

Guillaume Therien rejected 21 shots on goal for the Canadians. Tugnutt recorded 46 saves for the 73s. Kemptville incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. The 73s ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jonathon Masters was ejected from the game.
