The Oilers had not defeated the Saints all year, so coming in they knew they were in for an uphill battle. In 1st period the Saints would go up 1-0 off a goal by Joey Caprio as the Saints convert on the power play. At the end of 1 the score would remain 1-0 and the Saints felt good as they had outshot and outscored their opponents. In the 2nd though the Oilers would get a quick goal just 11 seconds in as Brandon Scholze would tie the game up at 1 reenergizing his team. The Saints Jay Shifra would get the next goal though as the Saints once again took the lead now at 2-1. Brandon Scholze answered right back though as he again brought his team back in the game now tied 2-2 with 12:33 in the 2nd period left. The Oilers would take the lead as Jake Greathouse found the back of the net to give the Oilers their 1st lead of the game. They would add another goal just seconds later as Kyle Hickman put the Oilers up 4-2 half way through the 2nd period. The Saints had lost the momentum and now the Oilers were looking to get their 1st victory all year vs. the Saints. The 2nd period would end still 4-2 and going into the 3rd the Oilers were looking to hold off the Saints down the stretch. In the 3rd the Saints picked up a goal just 1:15 into the period to pull with in 1 with plenty of time remaining. But Daniel Kemter would save 17 of 18 shots in the period for the Oilers to close the game out with a big 4-3 victory.

Game 2

Important to note that this game was on neutral grounds as was the first game. This series was actually held at the home of the Dells Ducks (Poppy Waterman). In this game the Saints knew it was win or go home and despite being down 1 game in the series had to have confidence as they had defeated them 6 times out of now 7 games this season. The Oilers would get the scoring started in this one just 2:17 into the period as Remington Reynolds put his team up 1-0. The Saints were not fazed as they continued to outshoot the Oilers, as they had in game 1, but were unable to get a goal until Hunter Berhrns would finish off a power play with a goal with 6:25 left in the period. The score would remain 1-1 after the 1st period. In the 2nd period the goalies and defenses would stop all opportunities keeping the score at 1-1 after 2. The 3rd period was crucial for the Saints to get back into the series, but the Oilers would take charge as Josh Eubank scored the biggest goal of the season for the Oilers putting his team up 2-1 just 1:00 into the 3rd period. Later Remington Reynolds would add another goal for the Oilers giving them a 3-1 lead with just 2:02 left to go in the game. The Oilers would close the game out for a big victory and the biggest upset the 1st round would see. The major factor in the series was Daniel Kemter would save 78 of the 82 shots on goal he would face for a .951 SV% picking up 2 big wins.
