Six teams from the MIHL advanced in the MIHL state tournament after clinching Regional Championships.
In Division I, Catholic Central defeated MIHL rival Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 5 – 2. St. Mary’s eliminated MIHL member Brother Rice 4 - 3 in the earlier round of Regional play. Catholic Central advances to the QuarterFinal round against Plymouth at Yost Arena on Wednesday.
Also in Division I, U of D Jesuit skated past Troy 7 – 0 . Seniors Tommy Apap and Lorenzo Bongiovanni each had 1 goal and 2 assists in the winning effort. The Cubs will face Lake Orion in the QuarterFinal round on Wednesday at the St. Clair Shores Arena.
2014 Division 1 Boys Ice Hockey Tournament Bracket
In Division II, it took Trenton two overtime periods to defeat defending Division II Champion Livonia Stevenson 3 - 2. Senior Mitchell Galea scored at 5:29 of the 2nd OT to clinch the victory for Trenton. Previously, Trenton defeated MIHL member Wyandotte 6 – 0. Trenton will face Ann Arbor Pioneer on Tuesday at Yost Arena in the QuarterFinal round.
Port Huron Northern downed Essexville Garber 3 – 1. Junior Brendan Shagena led the Huskies with 1 goal and 1 assist and Joey Zappa scored the game winner. The Huskies advance to the QuarterFinak round to face MIHL member DeLaSalle on Tuesday at the Macomb Arena. DeLaSalle nipped Romeo 3 – 2 in their Regional final championship game.
2014 Division 2 Boys Ice Hockey Tournament Bracket
In Division III action, Cranbrook kept its championship hopes alive with a 3 – 0 win over rival University Liggett. Junior Austin Alger led the Cranes with 2 and 1 assist while senior Christopher Brown added 1 goal and 2 assists. Cranbrook will face Farmington in the QuarterFinal round on Wednesday.
