BEAU HEAKINS lifted Mars to a 14-2 victory with a hat trick against South Park.
HEAKINS notched his first tally 10:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:33 into the second and at 3:57 into the third.Mars gained an early advantage, leading 5-1 by the end of the first period.
Mars stifled South Park's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mars forced South Park goalie Shane Walker to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Mars' goal total was higher than its season average. This season, Mars averages 6.2 goals per contest. The defensemen of Mars were also effective in South Park's zone, and came away with two goals.
Mars also got points from PAUL MAUST, who also grabbed two goals and four assists to lead the team in points, JASON SCHWARTZ, who also finished with one goal and one assist, KYLE THOMAS, who also registered one goal and four assists, Keaton Hanna, who also had one goal and one assist, IAN HOUK-GRAVES, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Charlie Osborne, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and JOHNATHAN KOWALKOWSKI, who also registered two goals and three assists. Mars also had goals scored by NICHOLAS MAKOZY and SLATER HANNA, who each put in one. In addition, Mars received assists from OWEN VASBINDER and ALEX WNOROWSKI, who contributed one a piece and IAN NEWMAN and CRAIG MAZZOTTA, who each chipped in two.
South Park struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Mars to score two power play goals on three chances.
South Park was helped by Jakob Hickey, who finished with one goal. Hickey scored 8:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mars. Matt Marynchak provided the assist. South Park also got a goal from Hunter Lanetz as well. More assists for South Park came via Kirk Zandier, who had one.
Tyler Spreng took the win and made 11 saves before being replaced by Andrew Pasquini who made two saves. Mars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Walker recorded 32 saves for South Park. South Park totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. South Park ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Puglisi was ejected from the game.
