Junior Bruins had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-0 win over Rochester Junior Americans.
The win gave Junior Bruins a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.
Junior Bruins was led by Taylor Slade, who grabbed one goal. Slade scored 5:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Junior Bruins. Cooper Fowler provided the assist.
Junior Bruins stifled Rochester Junior Americans' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Junior Bruins kept Rochester Junior Americans' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Johnston made 35 saves on 39 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.
Junior Bruins also got points from John DeRoche, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Junior Bruins included Lucas Niezelski and Illya Putintsev, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Junior Bruins were Sergey Bezrukov, Ryan Wagner, and Max Kahn, who each chipped in one.
Rochester Junior Americans excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Junior Bruins' defense shut down Rochester Junior Americans' forwards for much of the game, and Rochester Junior Americans got off only five shots during the contest.
Adam Mercer rejected five shots on goal for Junior Bruins. Junior Bruins incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Rochester Junior Americans incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
