Taking a 4-0 lead after just 8:33 of the first period, the Halton Hills Bulldogs later had to hang on for a 9-7 victory at home against the Oakville Buzz Saturday night to begin the Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse League’s regular schedule.

Several undisciplined penalties allowed the relatively young Oakville squad to keep within striking distance of the ‘Dogs, whose lead was cut to 7-6 with just over six minutes remaining in the final frame.

Luke Laidlaw (3), Jayson Crawford (2), newcomer Sean Connors (2), Seth Laidlaw and Connor Brown tallied for Halton Hills and Gavin Lecky earned the win in goal as the hosts were outshot 47-34 in front of about 400 spectators at the Alcott Arena.

Oakville went 2 for 12 with the man advantage on the evening and was led by Greg Campbell, who had four goals and two assists.

For the past several years, the Bulldogs have opened the regular season with a trip to eastern Ontario for a pair of weekend tilts, but their first three games of the 2013 campaign are at home, including next Saturday (May 11) against the Orillia Kings starting at 7:30 p.m.
