Benilde-St. Margarets uses big second period to beat Hibbing / Chisholm, 6-1

St. Louis Park, MN- The Benilde St. Margaret's Red Knights responded to a tough loss two days ago to Holy Family Catholic with a solid 6-1 win over the Hibbing/Chisholm Blue Jackets Saturday afternoon at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.  For the second straight game, the Red Knights fired over 50 shots on goal. This time, BSM got the result they were looking for.

Spencer Naas tallied a pair of goals and and Kaske notched  goal and two assists in the victory.  Freshman goalie Ryan Bischel made his first career start and delivered the win to lift the Red Knights record to 5-2 on the season.

"I thought Ryan Bischel looked calm and played with confidence," Pauly said of his freshman goaltender.  "Good first outing for him."

In control much of the hockey game, the Red Knights delivered scoring chances from every part of the offensive zone and were rewarded with efforts from the defensemen who generated a number of scoring chances from getting shots through on the net.

"All you need to do is take one look at prep hockey's scoreboard this year to understand that each team is in danger losing on most every night," Pauly said.  "It was nice for our team to get back into the win column after the last two outings.  Today was nice start, however we need to keep moving forward next week."

The Blue Jackets did not record a shot  on goal until late in the first period.  Eventually, they did an a goal followed by Joe Kanipes. to give his team the 1-0 lead.

"Hibbing competed hard all game so hats off to them. I still don't like the number of penalties that we are taking in the offensive zone. You don't get much from those infractions and it kills your momentum and it doesn't allow us to use our depth," Pauly said.

The Red Knights responded a minute later on a Zach Risteau goal assisted by Nate Meyer.  Nass scored his first of the game at 14:38 on the power play as the Red Knights never looked back.

They have a stiff challenge in the offensive minded Maple Grove Crimson coming up on Tuesday night at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.  That game will be streamed live on BSMhockey.com. "I still need to see us commit to more physical engagement in the defensive zone. Next week's teams will test our renewed commitment to both ends of the rink," Pauly said of their next upcoming games.
