Wojtala Signs on with Ducks Affiliate

Peter Halash, a former hockey standout at Detroit Catholic Central High School, was killed in a car crash in Kansas on Jan. 5, according to Aaron Babicz, athletic director for Catholic Central.“Peter was such a great young man,” said Babicz. “His personality would light up any room. Another young man gone way too soon.”
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office said that a 2000 Jeep Cherokee left the roadway and struck a tree. One person, believed to be the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation, but speed and hazardous road conditions may have contributed, according to the Lt. Jay Simecka.
Originally from Novi, Halash was a captain of the team in his senior year and was named to the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association (MHSHCA) All State, Division I as well as 1st Team All League by the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League )MIHL).

The 19-year-old played hockey for the Topeka RoadRunners – a Tier II Junior A team -- and had 20 points this season, scoring seven goals and 13 assists for his 21-11 team (second in the North American Hockey League South). The 6-foot, 180-pound forward played briefly with Tri-City before coming to Topeka in the 2012-13 season and scoring five goals with nine assists in 36 games.
