#3 Wooster Oilers (15-9-0-1) vs. #7 St. Louis Frontenacs (0-23-2-0)

As the Oilers continued to keep pace with the second place Illiana Blackbirds, the Frontenacs recent strong play and search for their first win of the season took a bit of a step back this weekend on the road in Wooster. The Oilers were dominant in the three-game sweep which included a Sunday shutout of the Frontenacs.

The Oilers wasted little time on Friday night, scoring just 18 seconds into the game and adding another late in the first period. The offense continued quickly in the second period as the home team added two more to their lead before the Frontenacs finally got on the board midway through the middle period. Wooster would add to the lead late in the period and while the Frontenacs would pull within three late in the second, it was the last of the scoring for the team from St. Louis. The Oilers would add two more goals in the third period to finish out the 7-2 win.

Saturday night’s game was nearly a carbon copy of Friday night’s, with the Oilers taking an early lead and never looking back. After scoring four first period goals, the Oilers added a fifth early in the second period before the Frontenacs finally got on the board midway through the second, scoring two goals to pull within three. But, like Friday night, that was the last of the scoring for the Frontenacs, for the rest of the weekend as it turned out. The Oilers would add two more in the third period to once again finish out the 7-2 win.

While Sunday’s game ended with the same goal differential, this time the Frontenacs were unable to get on the scoreboard despite their highest shot total of the weekend. The Oilers, once again, scored early in the first and early in the second and when all was said and done had added another in the second and two more in the third to finish the weekend with the 5-0 shutout win.

Josh Eubank was the catalyst for the Oilers, finishing with eight points on the weekend including four goals and four assists. Remington Reynolds (4G, 3A) and Dillon Kessey (1G, 6A) each added seven points against the Frontenacs. Reigning Goaltender of the Month Daniel Kemtercollected his seventh win of the season while Creighton Furber and Grayson Marsh also picked up wins, with Marsh stopping 23 shots in Sunday’s shutout.

Jordan Stradtman was a standout in a tough weekend for the Frontenacs, scoring three goals on the weekend while Curtis Schlereth added two assists and Nick Tobey scored the fourth goal of the weekend for the Frontenacs. Goaltender Loren Sawyer once again handled the bulk of the minutes for St. Louis, playing 140 minutes on the weekend and stopping 63 of 75 shots in his two starts and another 10 out of 12 shots in a period of relief work on Saturday night.

St. Louis will take two weeks off before returning to action at home against the Tri-City Icehawks, while the Oilers head on the road this weekend to Stevens Point, WI to face the Central Wisconsin Saints.
