JKA SHOTOKAN KARATE

Karate means "empty hand" -- self-defence without weapons. Karate emphasizes unity of body, mind and spirit, operating in harmony. Karate helps to keep fit, to improve co-ordination, concentration and self-image, to boost confidence, and to develop character.

The instructor, Sensei John Selinger, is a sixth degree black belt with the Japan Karate Association (JKA). He has been practising karate with the JKA for more than 40 years, and teaching for over 35. As an internationally certified JKA Instructor, Examiner and Judge, he is one of an elite group in Canada. Some highlights of his competition history include being Manitoba, Western Canadian, and Canadian champion. He has also represented Canada in international team competition.
The JKA SKD Winnipeg dojo at LWCC is a member of JKA SKD  (http://www.jkaskd.ca/) Canada and the Japan Karate Association (JKA) (http://www.jka.or.jp/english/e_index.html). The style of karate taught is JKA Shotokan karate.
