D3 ends season, falls 4-3 in overtime to Loyola University of Maryland

The West Virginia ACHA D3 hockey team played the final WVU home game of the 2022-23 season, losing 4-3 in overtime against the Loyola University of Maryland Greyhounds at Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena.

Senior interns Jake Howard, Ethan Krauss, Emily Fields and Brittany Holt were honored in a senior night ceremony before the game.

 

After a scoreless first period, the Greyhounds struck first on a power play just 14 seconds into the second play.

But the Mountaineers tied it up when Luke Casciola scored a goal to make the score 1-1 with 13:55 left in the second period, assisted by Braden Phillips.

However, the Greyhounds made it 2-1 with 8:11 to go in the second.

WVU answered again, as Adam McNeill assisted Will McNamara with 29.8 seconds left in the second period to tie the game again at 2-2.

With 6:47 left in the third period, Dan Arthurs scored on an assist by Carter Kline to put the Mountaineers in front, but the Greyhounds scored just 29 seconds later to tie the score at 3-3.

Six minutes and 18 seconds later, the game remained scoreless, and the teams headed to overtime.

In overtime, the Greyhounds scored the winner with 2:32 left.
