The West Virginia ACHA women’s hockey team finished their season home slate and series against the Mercyhurst University Lakers.
Seniors Abigail McGovern, Stephanie Chmiel, Alexa Rummel, Chloe Chipman were honored in a ceremony before the game.
Ally Schwind, after scoring five the previous night, once again assisted by Julianna Baibos and Abby Lewis, scored two minutes and thirty one seconds into the game to put the Mountaineers on the board.
However, four minutes and seven seconds later, the Lakers Equalized.
A senior night goal came with 12:54 left in the second period, as Stephanie Chmiel scored, assisted by Marek Deffibaugh to make it 2-1.
Baibos connected with Schwind once again, as she scored her seventh in two days with 8:32 to go in the second.
The Lakers made it a one-goal game again with 5:08 left in the period, but WVU made it a two-goal game just 37 seconds later when Schwind and Lewis set up Babios to make the score 4-2.
With 7:32 left in the third period, a Mercyhurst goal made the score 4-3, but it wasn’t enough for the Lakers as the Mountaineers fended off a Mercyhurst power play with 6:19 left in the game, and held on for a 4-3 senior night win.
The Mountaineers continue the rest of their season on the road next week when they face Niagara, Rochester Institute Of Technology and Ohio State on Feb. 17-19.
