The West Virginia ACHA D1 hockey team defeated the Temple Owls 7-4 at Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena, winning the first game of the calender year
Just 31 seconds into the game Temple scored to take the lead, and with 5:18 left in the period made it 2-0.
But with 22.9 Jacob Kosinski scored, assisted by Brendan Bolduc and Kris Cecere to make it 2-1.
Just 71 seconds into the second period, the Mountaineers equalized via a Jake Moleski goal, with Tyler Howcroft on the assist.
However, Temple went ahead again with 15:05 left in the period.
But WVU answered right back two minutes and six seconds later when Dawson Taylor assisted Moleski for his second goal of the game.
And 90 seconds later, with both teams down a man, Kadan Knorr set up Leo Haban to put the Mountaineers in front.
The goals kept coming, and Temple tied it up again with 7:13 left in the period, only for Howcroft to be assisted by Knor and Ashton Adamek two minutes and 23 seconds later.
And 78 seconds into the third period Camille Marcoux and Bolduc assisted Cecere to make the score 6-4.
With 2:59 left in the game, Marcoux added a seventh goal for WVU.
WVU head coach Shane Buckley said
"Yeah obviously we're happy with the offensive production. We'd rather not give up four but we're a work in progress on that. Couple things we worked on this week was, the backcheck and I was actually really proud of that. They didn't really generate a whole lot off the rush, they only thing they generated were over our mistakes. So overall not bad, but we keep getting better."
The two teams face off again tomorrow at 4:15.
