D2 defeats Virginia Tech 4-3

The West Virginia ACHA D2 hockey team against the Virginia Tech Hokies

 

WVU took the first lead of the game with 12:49 left in the first period, as Chace Shepard was assisted by Palahunik and George Best

 

However Virginia Tech tied it up with 9:23 left. Then, the Hokies then took the lead with 5:59 left in the period.

 

But with 3:59 left in the second period, Josh Plotkin tied up the game up for WVU with a power play goal with an assist from Chace Shepard, and Nicholas Mohardt scored an unassisted goal with two minutes to go before the second intermission to put the Mountaineers ahead.

 

And with 10:39 left in the third period, Plotkin assisted Jake Weikel to make it 4-2.

 

VT scored with 5:36 left in the game, but WVU held on.

 

The D2 Mountaineers next head East to face the Maryland Terrapins for a weekend doubleheader on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 at The Gardens Ice House.
