The West Virginia ACHA D2 hockey team won decisively, winning 6-1 against the George Washington Colonials at Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena.
The Colonials took the lead four minutes and 36 seconds into the game,
However, Mason Smith equalized for WVU two minutes into the second period, and Mark Stankiewiicz scored a go-ahead goal with 4:46 left, assisted by Nathan Panchisin.
With just 1:58 left, Ben Murphy put the Mountaineers up 3-1 on assists from Chance Shepard and Josh Plotkin
The Mountaineers scored a fourth when Nicholas Mohardt assisted Shepard with 5:09 left in the game, and scored a fifth just 93 seconds later when Jacob Meier scored, assisted by Gehrig Eckoff.
An unassisted goal from Owen Ambrozy made it 6-1 with 2:31 left.
The two teams face off tomorrow, Sunday Nov. 13, at 10 a.m.
