D3 loses 8-4 game to Duquesne

The West Virginia ACHA D3 hockey team against the Duquesne Dukes at Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena, falling to 3-5.

 

The Mountaineers scored five minutes and 32 seconds into the game when Carter Kline and James Ferry set up Daniel Arthurs, and just a minute and six seconds later Luke Casciola scored off an assist from Adam McNeill.

 

And then just 10 seconds later McNeill gained another assist, as he and Andrew Strickland combined to help Will McNamara put the Mountaineers up 3-0.

 

Incredibly, the Mountaineers scored their first three goals on their first three shots, and trailed the Dukes 3-4 in shots even while up 3-0 with 13:12 left in the period.

 

While they did concede a goal with 9:32 left in the period, McNeill got his third assist of the game ten seconds later, this time with Strickland being on the scoring.

 

However, the Dukes made the score 4-2 with 7:03 left in the period, and scored a third goal with 4:43 left to make the score 4-3.

 

The scoring didn’t stop, as Duquesne tied the game at 4-4 two minutes and 29 seconds later.

 

Nine minutes and 55 seconds into the second period, Duquesne completed their comeback, coming back from 4-1 to take a 4-5 lead.

 

With 12:57 left in the third period, the Dukes made the score 6-4, then scoring with 12:07 and 10:35 left to make the score 8-4.

The Mountaineers are back in action next week as they take on the PennWest California Vulcans at the Rostraver Ice Garden on Friday, Nov. 5. At 9:15 p.m., before facing them at home on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
