The West Virginia ACHA D1 hockey team lost a close one, falling 4-3 against the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks at Morgantown Municipal Ice Arena

Jonathan Stouffer scored the first goal of the game and his fourth of the season, putting the Mountaineers up 1-0 with 12:39 left in the first period, assisted by Dawson Taylor. However, IUP equalized two minutes and twenty-seven seconds later

West Virginia then took the lead, as Nick Grandy scored off an Isaac Jones assist with 4:25 left in the period.

IUP then tied it up again at 2-2 with 13:24 left in the period, and took the lead just 27 seconds into the third period, and then added a fourth goal with 17:05 left in the period.

Kadan Knorr added a goal with 27 seconds left after a Hans Watson assist, but it was too late.

WVU head coach Shane Buckley said there were some positives but also lessons learned.

“It’s one of those things where, we kind of don’t get off to a good start but we’re fortunate scoring a couple of goals and we’d like to be able to take advantage of that and we couldn’t get into a rhythm and then an unfortunate penalty call in the third was kind of the deciding factor there and I was proud of the fact that we didn’t give up and even with 27 seconds left we created some really good scoring chances, some stuff to build off but some stuff to clean up too.”

The Mountaineers are back in action next weekend as they take on the Ohio Bobcats on Nov. 4-5 at Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio
