GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs defeated the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks in a tight battle, winning 2-1 on 14 strikeouts from Sabre Dogs pitcher Eric Wallington (3-1, 2.62 ERA) Thursday. Sabre Dogs pitcher Aaron Suval (2-2, 6.23 ERA) collected the three-out save.
Sabre Dogs third baseman Steven Moretto extended his extra-base streak to three games, going 1-for-4 with a double Thursday. Moretto homered in his previous two games. First baseman Dylan Swanson went 1-for-4 with one RBI. The Sabre Dogs stole four bases as a team Thursday, two coming from second baseman Declan Buckle. Whiskey Jacks first baseman Jaxon Sorenson and center fielder Cameron Daigle were responsible for both hits Thursday, as Sorenson hit his ninth double and Daigle singled.
Whiskey Jacks pitcher Jack Moffitt (2-5, 5.47 ERA) collected his second straight loss of the season, pitching six innings on one run allowed (earned), giving up five hits, walking three batters, and striking out eight. Pitcher Jackson Harbin (0-1, 4.86 ERA), Kelan Scanlan (0-1, 9.23 ERA), and Dylan Kuester (1-1, 4.44 ERA) pitched three innings in relief Thursday.
The Whiskey Jacks (21-34) have lost six straight games. The Jacks will travel to Spearfish, S.D. to face the Sasquatch (37-17) in a three-game series. First pitch is at 7:35 p.m. (CST) Friday.
