Sabre Dogs Win 12-9; Whiskey Jacks Lose Four Straight

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks lose their fourth straight game, 12-9 to the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs Monday. 

 

21 combined runs were scored, six of which came off the bats of right fielder Allen Grier and left fielder Jordan Williams. Grier finished 2-for-5 with three RBI, bringing his total up to 43 on the season. Williams finished 2-for-4, driving in his 21st, 22nd, and 23rd RBI of the season. Third baseman Steven Moretto hit his sixth homerun of the year, finishing 2-for-5. Shortstop Justin Cooper went 2-for-5, including his fourth double of the season, with two RBI. Center fielder Reece Anderson followed suit, knocking in his 7th and 8th RBI of the season. Every Sabre Dogs starter recorded a hit. 

 

Whiskey Jacks first baseman Jake Hjelle continues to be the offensive motor, finishing 3-for-4 with his 14thdouble of the season. Hjelle knocked in two runners, raising his total to 35 on the year. Third baseman Jaxon Sorenson went 1-for-3 with his 8th double of the season Monday. Shortstop Dean Bittner finished 1-for-4 with his 16th and 17th RBI of the season. Left fielder Nolan Drill, catcher Keenan O’Brien, center fielder Trey Guajardo, and second baseman/pitcher Cameron Daigle all finished with one RBI. 

 

Sabre Dogs pitcher Jared Breedwell (1-0, 9.00 ERA) recorded the win on 1.1 innings pitched, striking out three out of the four batters faced. Jackson Kirkpatrick (1-1, 8.66 ERA) collected his second save of the season, pitching two shutout innings. Starting pitcher Conor Burdian (0-0, 27.00 ERA) gave up three runs (all earned) on one inning pitched, walking three batters, and striking out two. Deklan Harper (1-2, 10.53 ERA) pitched 1.1 innings on five runs allowed (all earned). 

 

Pitcher Julio Acosta (0-1, 6.75 ERA) collected his first loss of the season, pitching 2.2 innings in relief and giving up four runs (all earned), walking three batters. Whiskey Jacks pitcher Gene Aberouette (4-2, 4.73 ERA) went 5.1 innings on eight runs allowed (all earned), season-high 11 hits, walking three batters, and striking out three. 

 

The Whiskey Jacks (21-31) will play the second of the four-game series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Kraft Field.
