GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks avenged Thursday’s no-hitter with a 12-2 wallop of the Pierre Trappers Friday. Whiskey Jacks All-Star right fielder Houston Fogelstrom went 3-for-5 and collected his 22nd and 23rd RBI of the season. Whiskey Jacks first baseman Jaxon Sorenson hit a pair of doubles, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk. All-Star left fielder Jake Hjelle went 2-for-3 with his 12th double of the season. Catcher Rhett Stein went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks. Designated hitter Caleb McDowell and second baseman Garrett Olson both had a pair of hits. 

 

Trappers first baseman Joseph Bramanti collected his fourth double of the season, finishing 2-for-5. Left fielder Jacob Griffin was responsible for both of the Trappers runs on the offensive side of the ball, finishing 1-for-3 with two RBI. Center fielder Andrew Kim, shortstop Kaiden Cardoso, catcher Brock Rinehart, and left fielder Jacob Griffin all collected a hit. 

 

Whiskey Jacks pitcher Jack Moffitt (2-3, 6.08 ERA) collected his second win of the season, going five shutout innings, only allowing two hits. Moffitt walked three batters and struck out three. Brandon Nicks, Jackson Harbin, and Kelan Scanlan all combined for four innings of relief, giving up two runs (Nicks was responsible for both earned runs). Harbin struck out four batters in his two innings of relief. Trappers pitcher Jakob Newman (0-2, 6.31 ERA) recorded the loss, giving up five runs (all earned) on three innings of work, giving up six hits and only striking out two batters. Nathan June (0-0, 10.38 ERA) gave up four runs (all earned) in 1.1 innings of work, walking two batters. 

 

The Whiskey Jacks (19-25) will play the second game of the three-game series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Kraft Field.
