PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Trappers defeated the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks in a 6-4 12-inning battle Wednesday, winning their 12th game of the season. Trappers catcher Colin Adams had a strong game at the plate, hitting his 7th homerun of the year and drawing a pair of walks. Designated hitter Nicholas Strong went 1-for-4 with a double. Strong has a 12-game hitting streak. First/third baseman Kaiden Cardoso, second baseman Ty Stauss, and right fielder Richard Williams all collected one RBI in Wednesday’s game. Cardoso and teammate Tyler Skelton stole their 10th and 7th stolen bases of the season, respectively.
Whiskey Jacks left/center fielder Trey Guajardo recorded his second double of the season in his 1-for-5 performance Monday. First baseman Jake Hjelle recorded his 31st RBI of the season, finishing 2-for-4. Second baseman Ethan Sitzman and shortstop Garrett Olson both finished with a hit.
Trappers pitcher Tyler Luban (3-0, 2.74 ERA) collected the win on one inning of work, giving up one unearned run and striking out one batter. Pitcher Gannon Ruckman (0-0, 10.56 ERA) started for the Trappers, going 4.1 innings on three runs allowed (all earned), walking five batters (for the second consecutive start), and striking out five batters. Pitcher Nick McCollum (2-2, 5.40 ERA) pitched 6.2 innings in relief and struck out 11 batters, his second-best total of the season as he previously struck out 12 batters on May 25 versus the Hastings Sodbusters.
Whiskey Jacks pitcher Dylan Kuester (1-1, 4.44 ERA) collected his first loss of the season, pitching 3.1 innings on three hits, allowing three runs (one earned), striking out four batters. Pitcher Gene Aberouette (4-1, 2.32 ERA) pitched six innings on two runs (one earned), four hits and four walks allowed, striking out five batters.
The Whiskey Jacks (18-24) will play the Trappers (12-30) at 7:05 p.m. at Hyde Park before returning to Grand Forks on Friday for a three-game stretch at home versus the Trappers.
