DICKINSON, N.D. – The Badlands Big Sticks defeated the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks 9-4 Monday at Dakota Community Bank and Trust Park in Dickinson. Big Sticks center fielder Joe Osborn went 3-for-3 with a triple and a double, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Osborn also collected two RBIs and stole a pair of bases, increasing his total to 36 and seven stolen bases on the season.
Big Sticks Shortstop Anthony Garrett made his Big Sticks debut Monday, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two stolen bases. Catcher Ryan Stafford, left fielder Matt Olive, and right fielder Derek Gellos all swiped a base. Gellos, Stafford, and Olive all finished with one hit while Olive and Stafford collected a RBI.
Whiskey Jacks left fielder Jake Hjelle hit his second homerun in three games, his 5th of the season. Hjelle finished 1-for-4 with three RBI. Second baseman Ethan Sitzman went 3-for-5 with a RBI. Designated hitter Nolan Lingley went 3-for-4. Pinch-runner Cameron Daigle stole his 7th base of the season.
Whiskey Jacks pitcher Sam Marhefke (2-4, 6.26 ERA) collected his second straight loss, going 5.2 innings on a season-high 10 hits, eight runs allowed (six earned), striking out three batters. Big Sticks pitcher Adam Senden (2-2, 6.23 ERA) pitched an almost complete game, going 8.1 innings on nine hits, allowing four runs (three earned), two walks, and four strikeouts. Pitcher Mason Hoover (0-0, 0.00 ERA) recorded his first save of the season, pitched 2/3rds of an inning of relief.
The Whiskey Jacks (17-23) play at 7:05 p.m. (CST) tomorrow for the second game of the three game series in Dickinson.
