MINOT, N.D. – The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs defeat the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks 7-4 Saturday, extending the Whiskey Jacks’ losing streak to five games. Whiskey Jacks pitcher Ronny Piepmeier (1-3, 9.00 ERA) recorded his third loss of the season, going three innings pitched on six hits, five runs allowed (all earned), walking five batters, and striking out three batters. Piepmeier has walked five or more batters in three appearances this season. Pitcher Jackson Harbin (0-0, 6.27 ERA) pitched one inning in relief, giving up two runs (both earned), walking four batters. Cameron Daigle (1-0, 5.40 ERA) pitched four scoreless innings in relief, striking out one batter.
Sabre Dogs pitcher Kainin Morrow (5-1, 7.07 ERA) collected his third win in four appearances, going six innings on three runs allowed (all earned) while striking out four batters. Pitcher Daniel Charron (1-0, 4.97 ERA) pitched two innings in relief, giving up one earned run on two walks. Pitcher Jackson Kirkpatrick (1-1, 13.11 ERA) recorded his first save of the season.
Sabre Dogs center fielder Reece Anderson and third baseman Dalton Bowling both collected a double in Saturday’s game, their 3rd and 9th of the year, respectively. Bowling finished with two RBI, bringing his total to 23. Anderson collected his 4th RBI of the year. First baseman Beau Brewer collected his 49th RBI in a 0-for-2 performance. Designated hitter Steven Moretto, catcher Taylor Justus, and second baseman Gunnar Magrann all recorded a hit and a RBI.
Whiskey Jacks left fielder Jake Hjelle hit his fourth homerun of the year in his 1-for-4 performance Sunday, collecting his 25th RBI of the season. Center fielder Trey Guajardo went 1-for-4 with a RBI, his 4th of the season. Designated hitter Caleb McDowell, first baseman Nolan Lingley, shortstop Dean Bittner, and second baseman Garrett Olson all collected a hit.
The Whiskey Jacks (16-22) will finish the three-game series tomorrow at 5:35 p.m. at Corbett Field in Minot before heading to Dickinson, N.D. to commence a two-game series versus the Badlands Big Sticks.
