WANTED - Head Coach
Date: Jun 30, 2021

GLANBROOK (Nov. 14) -- The Glanbrook Rangers scored an emotional 4-2 triumph over their arch-rivals, the Grimsby Peach Kings, in a game marked by high tensions, intense drama, and a preposterous profusion of penalties.
Games between Glanbrook and Grimsby already come loaded with ferocity as the South Bloomfield Division evolves into a two-team race, so this contest was on full flame from the outset. And the Rangers, striving to increase their margin on the second-place Peach Kings, opened with a flourish as Keaton Kewley and Noah Matteson scored in the first frame to put the hosts ahead 2-0.
But in the second period, the penalties -- and frustrations -- mounted and Grimsby rallied to draw even on goals by Ry Beattie and Dorion Maye. With referee Alton Stead doling out misconducts like Halloween candy (20 in all, including 11 during the second period), the game threatened to collapse into chaos.
But the Rangers somehow managed to battle through until they could pull out a miraculous finish as Matteson buried the winning goal, his second of the game and 17th of the season, at the 16:52 mark of the third.
"I just told them to keep calm, stick to our systems and just play the game," said Rangers head coach John McDonald. "It doesn't matter about the bad calls, or what you think are bad calls, at the end of the day, you've just got to play the game."
Zach Manazzone added insurance just 54 seconds after Matteson's marker to give the Rangers their second straight win over the Peach Kings, who won the first matchup of the season 3-2 in overtime. Warren Lament made 32 saves for the Rangers to earn his 10th win of the season, while the Rangers penalty-killing unit earned special mention by foiling all seven Grimsby power plays. In all, the Rangers had 98 penalty minutes to Grimsby's 72.
