2018 B-FIT HEROS CUP BOSTON
Date: Jan 30, 2018
The season is well underway with rookie camp over and team practice underway in Calgary, Red Deere and Edmonton the team has there sights set on GOLD again this year. The team will wonder in to the desert of Las Vegas and join member of the Las Vegas Golden Knights in breaking in the new Las Vegas practice arena on the Vegas strip. Team Canada will consist of a few returning names from the 2016 gold medal win at the International Games in Boston. Matthew Sonntag the British Columba firefighter will stand back on the blue line again for Canada while team mates Jonathan Cuneo, David Rama and Dominic Godard will also carry gold to las Vegas with Team Alberta goaltender Sheldon Johnson in net. New faces of Mark Howdle, Levi Jessiman and Mike Marianchuk will be new faces in the lineup for the 2017 season. The team has a good mix of scoring and a very solid d-core to keep the team in hunt of the coveted gold medal.
There will be a few key factors this year that Canada will need to keep an eye on. As also when in the United States there will be no flood between periods so the ice conditions will quickly deteriorate and slow the game down. This will play against Canada as the team is build fast and skilled. Ice will be only one major issue that can be foreseen, Canada will have to watch the blue as well as both Jonathan Cuneo and Mathew Sonntag come in to the season fighting lower body injuries, Both will be key factors on the Canada blue line and if not on par might cause some issues with the Canada d-core. Eric Peace is fighting an upper body injury and is likely not to be cleared to play. Peace will be a huge loss not only on the score board but in the lockeroom. Peace put of 6 goals in 4 games last year so there will be a scoring void that needs to be filled.
A big positive is that both Sheldon Johnson and Dommic Goddard come in to the season start health and both can be major difference makers. Johnson when on his game can by his team a huge save often and is very much willing to help his d core move the puck out of the zone fast. Johnson was injured last year but is in 100% game shape now. Goddard is another one that can help put the points on the board and bring a fun and relaxed atmosphere to the dressing room.
Events will take off in Vegas on October 12th and end on the 15th. Check the website for updates and more info as the event get closer.
