There are two assistant coaching opportunities with Buffalo Hockey.
We are looking to add an Assistant Hockey Coach for Defense and an Assistant Hockey Coach for Goaltending with the University at Buffalo Men’s Ice Hockey ACHA D1 Program.
Position Title: Assistant Men's Ice Hockey Coach
Start Date: ASAP
Purpose of Position: To serve as the assistant men's ice hockey coach for University at Buffalo.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach with coaching duties and team operation tasks.
- Such as but not limited to:
- Recruitment of domestic and international students.
- Player development
- Practice planning
- Game operations
- Conditioning
- Fundraising.
- The successful candidate will ensure the development and well-being of the student-athletes, along with maintaining effective professional relationships with the student-athletes, staff, and administration.
- Promote the development of a successful program including the development of high quality student-athletes, as well as demonstrating athletic excellence.
- Establish a leadership/mentor role and display an unyielding commitment to honesty and integrity while promoting sportsmanship and responsible behavior both during and outside of athletic competition.
- Travel with the team to away competitions and supervise student-athletes while attending off campus events. Assist the head coach in coordinating team travel
- In cooperation with the club's leadership council, assist in organizing and supervising club meetings, practices, and competitions.
- In cooperation with the club's leadership council, assist with home events and management of travel for away events.
- Assist in recruiting quality student-athletes from geographically and demographically diverse populations; assist in arrangement of campus visitations and correspondence with prospects, parents, and alumni.
- Act as the liaison for the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
- Other duties assigned by head coach.
Position Qualifications:
- Collegiate playing experience preferred.
- Recruiting and coaching experience preferred.
- USA Hockey Coaching Certification Level 1 – Must be willing to obtain the higher certifications.
- A demonstrated expertise in coaching is required for this position.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to coach specific segments or groups in the sport is a prerequisite.
- A thorough knowledge of USA Hockey's and the American Collegiate Hockey Association's policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university preferred.
Season begins in late August / early September thru March.
Typically practice 2 – 3 time per week in the early mornings and play on average 2 games per weekend, typically Friday nights and Saturday afternoons.
