PLAYOFF COVERAGE: DAY #1

St. Louis, MO – Five out of the nine divisions started their playoff run on Monday night at All American, the Fenton Forum and Midwest Sport Hockey.  Once teams made it through the high flood waters and California rush hour traffic, the 2017 MOIHA state championship playoffs began.


The Varsity 1 quarterfinal game ones took place at All American as #1 Oakville squeaked by #8 Holt by the score of 8-6 and #2 DeSmet had no problem with #7 Fox as the Spartans got the 8-2 victory.  The V1 game of the night was #6 Rockwood Summit Falcons taking on the #3 Francis Howell North Knights.  The Knights erased an early 3 goal deficit and the game would go to overtime.  Rockwood’s Michael Lane would get the game winner and give the Falcons the 1-0 series lead.  The final V1 game of the night was #5 CBC defeating #4 Fort Zumwalt South in an offensive packed 13-11 victory.  The V1 quarterfinal game two’s and threes (if necessary) will take place Tuesday night at the Fenton Forum.


The Junior High 2 quarterfinals took place at the Fenton Forum with #4 Fort Zumwalt South getting the 14-9 win over #5 Parkway South and #3 Lindbergh defeating #6 Northwest by the score of 10-1.  The JH2 semifinals are set with #1 Fort Zumwalt North taking on #4 Fort Zumwalt South and #2 Holt squaring off against #3 Lindbergh on Saturday at the Fenton Forum.


The Varsity 2 first round was also played at the Fenton Forum on Monday as #7 Westminster narrowly defeated #10 Francis Howell Central 8-6 to advance to a quarterfinal matchup against #2 Parkway South.  In the other V2 first round game, #8 Vianney held onto their two goal lead and defeated #9 Francis Howell 5-3 to advance to the quarterfinals where they will take on #1 Fort Zumwalt North.  The V2 quarterfinal games will take place on Wednesday night at the Fenton Forum.


Midwest Sport Hockey was the venue for the Junior High 1 quarterfinals where #3 Hazelwood advanced to the semis with a 9-5 victory over #6 Vianney and #4 Fort Zumwalt West punched their ticket with a 7-3 win over #5 Francis Howell.  The JH1 semifinals are set with #2 Parkway South taking on #3 Hazelwood and #1 Rockwood Summit facing off against #4 Fort Zumwalt West on Saturday at the Fenton Forum.


The C-Division first round also took place at Midwest with #11 Affton escaped with a 6-4 win over #14 Columbia and #13 Northwest upset #12 Francis Howell North in a defensive battle that ended 2-1.  #13 Northwest will now take on #5 CBC and #11 Affton will square off against #6 Fort Zumwalt South in the C-Division second round which will be played on Tuesday night at Midwest Sport Hockey.
