Mayhem score three in first four minutes, beat Knoxville 5-1 to regain first place

MACON, GA - The Macon Mayhem got off to a blazing start in the first period, scoring three goals in the first three minutes and four goals in the first 10:04 en route to a 5-1 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

John Siemer led off the scoring with his first goal since February 25, assisted by Chris Joseph. Collin MacDonald followed up just 40 seconds later with a goal off a pass from Daniel Gentzler. Then again, 40 seconds later, Michael Holland scored his first career professional goal to make it 3-0. Holland toe-dragged around the defender and put a shot in the top right corner of the net. 10:04 into the first, Stephen Pierog scored on the power play to make it 4-0. Matt Summers recorded his second assist of the game, and Trask picked up the secondary assist on the goal.

There were no goals for the next 48 minutes of the game until Collin MacDonald scored his second of the game with just 2:22 left in the third. He drove to the back door, got a beautiful pass from Trask, and redirected it into the net to make it 5-0. Holland picked up his second point of the night with the secondary assist. Knoxville’s Danny Cesarz scored on a one-timer with 1:27 left to break the shuout of Mike DeLaVergne, and 5-1 would be the final score.

NOTABLE STATS

The Mayhem finish off the weekend 1-1-1, moving to 31-10-6 on the season (67 points). With the win, they retake first place from the Huntsville Havoc. The team will play Huntsville three times next weekend.

Mike DeLaVergne earned his second consecutive start, picking up his first win. The rookie from Buffalo State College saved 23 of the 24 shots he faced in the game.
