Congratulations to the Goulbourn Hornets Major Midget Girls basketball team on winning the Gold Medal in the MUMBA Tournament held in Markham on February 11-12, 2017.

The Hornets won all three of their games on the Saturday.  Goulbourn faced a tough first game against the host MUMBA team but defeated them 36-23.  Game two saw Goulbourn defeat the Silver Knights from South York 54 to 17 in a solid defensive outing.   The Hornets put together a strong game three against the Sudbury Jam.  The score was 15 to 14 for Goulbourn after the first quarter and then the Hornets exploded at both ends of the court and came out on top with a 63-35 victory to qualify them for the gold medal game on Sunday.

The Hornets faced the Brockville Blazers in the tournament final.  The Blazers and Hornets had met twice this year in Eastern Ontario Basketball Association league play and split the first two games.  After a strong start by the Blazers the Hornets were able to maintain a 10 point spread through most of the second half and came out on top with a 47 to 35 win. "The four games in the MUMBA Tournament were the most complete team games of the season. I was very proud of the team and how they kept up their competitive level for the entire weekend.  We are really coming together as a team and are peaking at the right time,” said Coach Graham Thompson.

The Hornets have a 13-4 season record with two gold medal victories in their first two tournaments of the year including the Kanata Chris Paulin Tournament.  Next tournament for the Hornets is March 3-5 in the Kingston Mega Tournament.
