AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls wrapped up their 7th Main Camp over the weekend near Pittsburgh, PA, and the Coaching Staff was thrilled of what took place.
Thirty-one players, including three goaltenders, have been chosen and will report to the Texas Panhandle later this month to begin Training Camp. From there, the Coaching Staff will have further player decisions that will have to be made prior to the launch of the 2016-17 season which takes place September 9th.
“We were really pleased with the level of play throughout the duration of the camp, especially on the weekend,” said Head Coach Matt Nicholson. “It was not easy for our staff to come to a conclusion with respect to our player pool. Anytime there are tough decisions to make that is usually a good problem to have.”
The 31 players were chosen from a group of more than 130. The Main Camp consisted of goalie tryouts and then a series of games featuring several different teams. The All-Star finale on the Sunday was a collection of the best players that survived the previous days of cuts. The final 31 includes a mix of veterans, newcomers as well as Tendered and Draft Picks. Nicholson said there is lots of work to do in Training Camp in Amarillo, but knows the players are ready to do whatever it takes.
“We know that every game is a battle in the North American Hockey League’s South Division, however we are pleased at where our group sits right now, he said. “We believe that these players will continue to trend upwards.”
