HUNTERSVILLE, NC (April 18, 2016) - The Southern Professional Hockey League on Monday announced that John LIdgett of the Huntsville Havoc has been selected as the Easton Rookie of the Year in a vote of league coaches, general managers and media representatives.
"Cannot say enough about how great it is to play in Huntsville," said Lidgett. "Thank you to all of the staff, fans, and most importantly my teammates for a great season. Thank you to everyone who has reached out."
"John is very deserving of this honor," said head coach Glen Detulleo. "From day one of training camp, Lidgey had a major impact on our club, both on and off the ice. His daily work ethic allowed him to have a very successful season, both individually, and in helping our team reach the playoffs."
Fayetteville's Joseph Manno finished second in the balloting.
In addition to leading Huntsville in scoring, Lidgett finished second among all SPHL players in shorthanded goals (three), was second among rookies in points (42) and assists (27) and third in shots on goal (170). Prior to turning pro, Lidgett (Edmonton, AB) played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Colgate University where as a senior he was named co-recipient of team's Whit Williams Award, given annually to team's most improved player.
