Registration Frequently Asked Questions
My son/daughter wants to play house league. When are practices and games?
Most Naismith house league teams play in the West End Basketball League (WEBL). Games are usually Saturdays in the west end of Ottawa (Nepean,Kanata and Stittsville). Most divisions in the WEBL finish with a year end tournament, in March or April. House league practices are usually once a week at the same gym in Almonte or Carleton Place. Practice locations for 2016-17 will be posted on the website as they are confirmed with the local school boards.
When does the basketball season start and finish?
The Naismith Basketball season will start the week of September 19th 2016 for both house and competitive teams. Registered players will receive an email notifying them of practice times and location. The basketball season finishes in March and early April, but some of the older divisions will finish their season in May.
My son/daughter wants to play for a competitive team. Are there tryouts?
Anyone who is interested in playing competitive basketball is encouraged to register for a competitive team. Player evaluations will be completed on an as-needed basis as determined by registration numbers. The minimum number of players for a competitive team is 10: the maximum is 12-13. Any player who has registered for a competitive team who is not successful in the event of evaluations will be refunded the difference between house league and competitive fees.
I don't want to use my credit card online. Is there another payment option?
We now have an option to "Pay by cash/cheque at a later date". Please enter your player's information on our registration system, and choose this option at checkout. We will be in touch to make payment arrangements in person.
My player is in Grade 2. Should he/she play JR NBA or Novice?
The JR NBA is an introductory program for players 5-7 years old designed for players with little or no basketball experience. If your player has previous experience, or is keen to play in more game situations, then he/she would be encouraged to try out our Novice Program.
