Monterrey, Mexico – For the second season in a row, the Monterrey Flash have eliminated the Dallas Sidekicks from playoffs. At Arena Monterrey in front of a playoff record 6,113 fans, the Flash ran away with an 11-1 victory to crown themselves Southern Division Champions.
Veteran Genoni Martinez got things going early in the first quarter, scoring just 52 seconds into the game. It was an ominous omen for Dallas, who would let in nine more goals before defenseman Cody Ellis made a run up the boards and launched a rocket into the Flash net for the team’s only tally of the match. Monterrey forward Erick Tovar displayed an outstanding performance, putting up six goals and one assist. The two teams played rough throughout the season, this game no different with a combined 38 individual penalties assessed. Monterrey converted on all three of their powerplay chances, while the Sidekicks were unable to capitalize on their one.
The Flash will move on to face the Pacific Division Champion Las Vegas Legends to determine the winner of the Western Conference. Conference Final play will end by Wednesday, March 18. The MASL Championship Series will be played between Friday, March 20 and Thursday, March 26.
The Sidekicks will be back in action this fall. Season tickets are currently on sale. For more information, visit www.dallassidekicks.net or call 469-200-GOAL. Follow the team throughout the offseason on Twitter and Instagram @GoSidekicks or on Facebook at facebook.com/GoSidekicks.
