Prince William Ice Center Hockey Family,
As many of you have heard, our hockey comunity has lost a great man. After battling an infection in his brain at the University of Virginia Medical Center for the past two months, Robert Moss passed away with his wife, Lucie, at his side on Monday morning. Rob and Lucie had been together for 23 years, and married for 16 of them. He was born in Nova Scotia and grew up playing hockey in Canada, though he often pointed out that he was very proud to be an American. His love for the game of hockey passed on to his daughter, Samantha, who continues to play today in the peewee travel program here in our facility. In addition, Rob himself continued to play in the adult hockey league until a short time ago.
I personally was able to get to know Rob Moss and his family better last spring while coaching his daughter, Sam, in the Prospects program. He was always good for a smile and a handshake, and you could count on him being a Dad that was suppotive of his little girl regardless of the how many points she had or the outcome of the game. His only concern was that she had fun and loved to play.
Whenever the hcokey community loses someone we are reminded that it not only affects so many people with feelings of mourning, but it also inspires so many to step up and support the family. Over the past couple of months numerous hockey families took turns driving to Charlottesville to be there for Lucie as she stayed by the sde of Rob. Back home other families took care of Sam; getting her to hockey and to school. The resilience of a family and a community are truly measured in the toughest of times. As we move forward please continue to support the Moss family, and thank you to those that have done so much already. I will amend this letter as we know more information on arrnagements so please check back in a few days. Lastly, in Robert's memory, embrace every day, every moment, and cherish your family and hockey community - becasue we see in times like these that they'll always be there for you.
Sincerely,
RJ Zeigler
