The Goulbourn Hornets Major Bantam Girls Basketball Team took home the gold medal in the AA Division at the recent Mike O’Connor Memorial Basketball Tournament.

The Hornets went undefeated over the weekend, ending with a 5-0 record.

Goulbourn played their first game against the host Gloucester Wolverines which ended with a 44-22 victory for the Hornets.  This game was followed by wins over the Nepean Blue Devils 40-24 and the Cornwall Lions 47-26.  The opponents for the fourth game were Polypus E.S. Bernard-Gariepy from Sorel-Tracy, Quebec.  Both teams were 3-0 going into the game but the Hornet’s prevailed, winning 31-22.  This set up the gold medal game which proved to be a re-match of game 4.  Polypus was eager to avenge their previous loss.  The game was very close with several lead changes throughout the game.  The Hornets were able to hold onto the lead and finished the game 32-28 to win the gold. Marissa Smail also picked up the Game MVP Award.
