Goulbourn Hornets Major Midget Boys Win Gold at Markham Tournament

The Goulbourn Hornets Major Midget Boys basketball team brought home the gold from the MUMBA Invitational Basketball Tournament held on March 24th and 25th in Markham. The Hornets opened the tournament with three convincing wins over local competition. The Hornets defeated the Oakville Venom #2 team 87-35, the host MUMBA team 80-51 and the Burlington Skyhawks 69-17 to advance to the championship game versus a strong team from Durham City West on the Sunday afternoon.

The championship final was tight from tip-off to final whistle. Goulbourn and Durham were knotted at 12 after one quarter. At the half, Durham led by a mere two points, 22-20. After three quarters Goulbourn had gained a single point advantage, 38-37. During the fourth quarter Goulbourn hit some important shots and forced numerous turnovers with tenacious defence. A lay-up at the final buzzer, pushed the score to 57-51 for Goulbourn. The Hornets were tournament champions!
