Goulbourn Hornets Major Bantam Girls Bring Home Silver from Gloucester Tournament

The Goulbourn Hornets Major Bantam Girls basketball team recently competed in the AA/AAA division at the Mike O’Connor Memorial Tournament and earned a silver medal. They opened the tournament against the neighbouring Kanata Cavaliers and used stifling team defense to dispatch the Cavs 40-10. The Hornets then faced two teams from Quebec to complete the round robin. First up was Asteries de Victoriaville, whom Goulbourn defeated 41-17 with another strong defensive effort. More offense was on display in the next game, as the Hornets used a more faced-paced transition game to out-gun the St. Bruno Cougars 55-29.

Following their perfect round robin, the Hornets advanced to the semi-finals against the host Gloucester Wolverines. Following a back-and-forth opening quarter, Goulbourn eventually pulled away to earn a 51-31 victory and a date with the undefeated Nepean Blue Devils in the finals. Following an intense defensive battle with several lead changes, the Hornets eventually succumbed to their traditional rivals from Nepean 30-27 to take home the silver medals. Congratulations to the girls and thanks for putting on a great display of exciting basketball.
