Lawrenceville, Ga. – The Sunbelt Baseball League will have two new teams in the mix for the 2014 season. The Phenix City Crawdads and the East Cobb Patriots will be entering the Sunbelt League, effective immediately. The addition of the Crawdads and the Patriots fill the void left by two teams exiting the Sunbelt League. The League will be without the OTC Bearcats and the 6-4-3 DP Cougars for the 2014 season.
"The Sunbelt League welcomes the addition of both the East Cobb Patriots and the Phenix City Crawdads,” says Todd Pratt, President of the Sunbelt League. “Both organizations are led by good baseball people and we look forward to them both competing for the Sunbelt League Championship in 2014."
The Phenix City Crawdads will be based out of Columbus, Ga, playing their home games at Glenwood High School. The Crawdads are just in their second season in existence coming over to the Sunbelt League from the Georgia Baseball League. With the distance between the Crawdads, and most other Sunbelt teams, for the 2014 season, during the week, the Crawdads will come to the Metro-Atlanta area to play 2 away games during the beginning of the week. The Crawdads will then return home to play 2 home games on the weekend (usually one Friday and one Saturday or a double header on Saturday).
The East Cobb Patriots, a branch of the prestigious East Cobb Baseball in Marietta, will join the Sunbelt in the Marietta Area in 2014. For the past 13 years, East Cobb Baseball has been providing the state of Georgia and the nation with the top year-around baseball, producing names such as Brian McCann, Buster Posey, Brandon Phillips, Jason Heyward, and Nick Markakis.
The Sunbelt Summer Baseball League has been providing premier summer baseball for the Southeast since 2005. For everything around the Sunbelt League go online to sunbeltleague.com for news, scores, broadcast information, and much more and on Facebook and Twitter @sunbeltbaseball.
