Allen uses early goal to top Quad City, 4-2

The Allen Americans beat the Quad City Mallards, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Allen took over the lead for good with a goal by Bruce Graham at 15:38 in the first period. The Americans had gained a power play chance when Mike Stinziani was whistled for roughing. Jonathon Zion assisted on the tally.

The win by Allen broke a deadlock and gave the Americans a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Allen was led by Jamie Schaafsma, who finished with one goal. Schaafsma scored 14:12 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Allen. Graham picked up the assist.

The Americans' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Quad City power plays. Allen's offense rang up 34 shots on Quad City's net.

Allen also got points from Graham, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Allen included Greger Hanson and Jonathan Lessard, who each put in one. More assists for Allen came via Tyler Ludwig, Mike Berube, and Anthony Maiani, who contributed one each.

The Mallards kept the Americans' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bryan Pitton made 33 saves on 35 shots.

Quad City was helped by Matt Boyd, who registered one goal. Boyd scored 17:21 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Allen. Michael Monfredo provided the assist. Jordan Mayer also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Nicholas Rioux and Thomas Frazee, who each chipped in one.

Allen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ty Rimmer recorded 30 saves for the Mallards. Quad City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
