SPEARFISH, SD – We all may have lost an hour of sleep this past week due to daylight savings time. However, that just means there is one less hour of waiting for baseball to be back in Spearfish. With no time to waste, here is this week’s Sasquatch Spotlight. Bryson Beltran is a freshman from Seattle playing ball at Gonzaga. He is a first baseman who also can be the designated hitter.
Brent - “What is your Favorite Pro Baseball Team”
Bryson - “Seattle Mariners”
Brent - “Who is on your all-time Baseball Mount Rushmore and Why?”
Bryson - “Mike Trout, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., and Mariano Rivera. Mike Trout because he is the ultimate 5 tool player and does every aspect of the game at a high level. Barry Bonds because he is the greatest hitter to ever live. Ken Griffey Jr. because he brought so much excitement to the game and had you on the edge of his seat whenever he was up. Mariano Rivera because everyone knew what pitch he was going to throw, and major league hitters still couldn’t hit it.”
Brent - “What or who inspired you to get into the game of baseball and Why did you choose to continue playing baseball into college?”
Bryson - “My parents stuck me in baseball at a very young age and I really enjoyed hitting so I just stuck with it. I chose to play baseball in college because I love the game and wanted to keep playing as long as I could”
Brent - “If baseball doesn’t work out for you, what would you do for a career? What is your major in school?”
Bryson - “My major in school is Human Physiology and anatomy. Career wise, I either want to work in orthopedics or physical therapy.”
Brent - “What is your favorite activity outside of baseball?”
Bryson - “Nothing in particular, I really enjoy spending time with my family so anything with them is fun.”
Brent - “If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you bring and Why?”
Bryson - “Fishing pole so I can entertain myself and get food, a book to also entertain myself and keep a fire going when I’ve read it too many times and a flare gun to get off the island as fast as possible.”
Brent - “What is a special talent you have that isn’t baseball related?”
Bryson - “ I know all of the bones in the body and can name almost all bony markings on those bones. I had to learn them for a class in a couple weeks so I’ll probably never forget them because I looked over them so many times.”
Brent - “What is your go-to karaoke song and Why?”
Bryson - “Jessie’s girl because it’s my mom’s favorite song, I know all the words by heart and if I am singing it poorly you won’t be able to hear my singing over my mom’s”
Brent - “The world is ending because of a zombie apocalypse, what do you do?”
Bryson - “Go to my cousin’s house because they live fairly far from any large cities and it would be difficult for any zombies to find me out there.”
Brent - “What toppings belong and don’t belong on a pizza?”
Bryson - “I’m not picky with any pizza toppings besides black olives. No matter how big the pizza is or how many toppings there are I will always be able to taste a singular black olive through all of that.”
Brent - “What is your goal(s) for this summer?”
Bryson - “I want to have a really fun summer playing baseball and exploring an area of the country that I have never been to.”
