Game one of the 2019 season is in the books, and the West Durham Ironheads are 1-0. They grabbed a very quick 2-0 lead over the Orillia Kings, thanks to a goal from Jack Boyden, and Jackson Raposo just under two minutes into the game.

That was quickly vanished though, after the Kings scored five unanswered.

Later, the Ironheads potted two late in the first, another one coming from Boyden but the Ironheads still trailed 5-4 at the end of one period.

Ironheads kept it going to start the second, regaining the lead with two early goals from Rowan MacLachlan, and Mark Wilson.

Back and forth from there, the Ironheads would come out with 9-8 lead after two. Boyden picked up another to complete the hat trick.

The Ironheads came out and controlled the whole 3rd period, outscoring the Kings 6-1, for a 15-9 final. Boyden finished with five goals on the night, and was pretty humble after the game.

“It feels good, obviously but at the end of the day it’s a team game so, as long as we’re getting wins, it doesn't really matter what my role is.”

Coach Pat Gregoire didn't think the offence made many adjustments in the third period, they just stuck to the game plan and it worked.

“To be quite honest, I felt that with the offence the ball was just sinking for them," said Gregoire. "The offence I thought had a really good game overall, especially considering how many young guys were on the floor, but overall I felt the first two periods we were getting our looks, the ball just wasn’t sinking.”
