The Essex 73’s are once again heading to the PJHL’s  Stobb’s Division final after a 5-2 win and 4-0 sweep tonight in Amherstburg against the Admirals.

The Admirals, with their backs to wall, came out to halt the Essex momentum the past three games with two goals in the opening period by Travis Campbell and Michael Hatch setting the tone briefly  with a 2-0 lead  showing that Amherstburg wasn’t ready to pack away the blades just yet.

But the 73’s got it rolling later in the first period when Michael Vieira scored a power play beauty from William Stadder and Josh Pope – Ferguson to keep it close after one frame 2-1.

Stadder collected his second point on the night, this time scoring the single, second period tally on another power play goal, with assists from Ferguson and Adam Gaiarin to tie it up, setting up what would be an exciting third period.

With all hands-on deck for Essex and the Admiral’s desperate to get back in this one, 73’s netminder Connor Meyerink gave another repeat stellar performance stopping the best the Admirals could throw stopping 29 shots on the night.

Tyler Beneteau scored unassisted for Essex to break the tie at the 7:24 mark of the third period, but knowing the Admirals would still be difficult to close out completely, it took another Stadder tally and Vieira empty -netter to close this one out for good, as the 73’s end up taking this one on the road with the 4-game sweep of the series.

The 73’s will now wait the outcome of the other Stobbs Semi Final series against Lakeshore and Dresden and will face the winner for the Stobbs Division Championship.
