Wait… what???
Something came up which foiled plans for the entire team to make the trip to Tampa for two games versus the Spartans of The University of Tampa. Ultimately six brave young men made the 13 hour drive down from Newport News, Virginia. That’s right; five skaters and a goalie came down to take-on a very strong Tampa squad.
Facing a robust bench and an enthusiastic crowd, the boys from VA came to play. Exceptional goaltending (stopping 104 of 122 shots combined over 2 games) helped them hold their heads-high.
Coach Steve Kucera of Tampa exhibited superb sportsmanship and leadership. The UT players held their guests in the highest esteem. The mutual respect exhibited by both groups further demonstrates how great our game is.
At one point over the weekend and upon CNU’s scoring a rare goal, the opposing Tampa line joined their on-ice celebration ceremoniously touching gloves. The customary bench fly-by wouldn’t be as fun during these two grueling days.
CNU’s Head Coach Alex Howell reported how proud he was of the guys who made the trip. He was especially pleased to hear they actually enjoyed it!
