Weekend Preview: UVM at MC and UMaine

Date:  Source: University Of Vermont Men’s Ice Hockey Club

Overview

This weekend, the University of Vermont ACHA Men's Hockey team will travel to North Andover, MA and Portland, ME for games against Merrimack College and the University of Maine. These will be UVM's first NECHA matchups of the season after defeating NJIT twice in non-league action. UVM, who maintain a 2-0-0 record, will look to stay unbeaten through the first four games of the 2018-19 regular season.

Merrimack Preview

2017-18 was a trying year for the Warriors, who finished 4-14-3 and missed postseason play. Late in the summer it was announced that longtime Head Coach Tom Flanagan would be leaving the team for personal reasons. Immediately following Flanagan's resignation, Assistant Coach Jared Rizo was named Head Coach of Merrimack College. MC's game against UVM will be their first of the 2018-19 season. Vermont and Merrimack last played during the 2016-17 season, when UVM defeated the Warriors 7-1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

UMaine Preview

The Maine Black Bears are coming off of one of their most successful seasons in program history. The 2017-18 UMaine team finished with a 10-7-0 record and narrowly missed the Northeast Regional Tournament. With much of their roster intact, UMaine projects to be a formidable team in 2018-19. UVM and UMaine last squared off in 2016-17, when the Catamounts defeated the Black Bears by a score of 5-3 at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
