NAME: Kenneth Mack

HOMETOWN: Cleveland, OH
YEAR: Sophomore
POSITION: Goaltender
Q: What is the single best thing about playing college hockey for your current CHE team?
A: The best thing about playing in college hockey is the competitive nature of this level of hockey. Everything is so much faster, and so much more mature. Everything you do counts for something, and one wrong move can break you. The pressure is surreal, but it's worth the adrenaline. I love the speed and the intensity of college hockey because I know it is a step down from pros, which makes me feel accomplished to play with such a talented team.
Q: What is the most-memorable hockey game you have ever been involved in, at any level?
A: The most memorable game I have ever played was in high school when my school's team was the first team to ever beat our top private school rival. It was my senior year, and every single year since I was a freshman we would lose to all of the private school teams. It was so frustrating because we would always work so hard and would only lose by a point or two at the last minute. But finally, senior year, we were able to bring home a win. I was really glad that it happened because I would have been so disappointed to graduate without having beaten some of the better teams in our league.
Q: Are there any routines or rituals you must stick to before every game, such as listening to a certain song?
A: Honestly, I do not have any pregame rituals. The only thing that I do the same before every game is put my right leg pad on before my left.
Q: Which opposing CHE team do you really enjoy playing against, and why?
A: I really enjoy playing against Case Western University because, for me, that means a trip home to play in front of my friends and family in Cleveland.
Q: If you were put in charge of the entire sport of hockey and could change just one thing about the game, what would it be?
A: As a goalie, I would change icing calls. Although I understand the concept and the point of the call, I think that it is really useless and not beneficial to goaltender improvement. I would get rid of icing so that goalies would be pushed to play outside the net more and be comfortable farther out on the ice when they need to be.
Q: What made you choose to attend your current school?
A: My choice of school was based on my major. With only 12 colleges in the nation with my degree, Penn State was my top pick for my major and because they offered hockey.
Q: What is your major and what do you want to do with it after graduation?
A: My major is Petroleum Engineering. Eventually, I would like to work for a large oil company and be able to work with other engineers on bettering the quality of oil.
Q: What person outside of your family has done the most for you?
A: Coach Reggie was my coach when I was younger. He has done the most for me as a coach because he's the one who inspired me to play goalie. He taught me everything I know about hockey and how to be a good sport.
Q: Would you rather be Superman or Batman, and why?
A: I would definitely be Superman. His abilities are unbeatable, and I personally believe that there isn't any other super hero or villain that could beat him.
Q: What are your two favorite apps on your smartphone, and why?
A: My two favorite apps on my smartphone are the CNN News app and YouTube. I enjoy being updated on social topics that are happening within our country and around the world. I also like to watch YouTube videos in my spare time because I find it very relaxing.
