RECAP | CASSELMAN VIKINGS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT LEAGUE TITLE

ATHENS 4 WESTPORT 3 – 2OT
RECAP:
Game two of a three game series was underway last night as the Aeros took on the Rideaus in Westport. Athens was facing elimination while Westport needed a win to move on.
In the first period, Athens took a 1-0 lead when Burns scored on the power play at 7:39. Shortly after, Westport tied the game 1-1 after they got a power play goal of their own. But right before the period ended, Athens went up 2-1 going into the second after Stacey scored. It was now 2-1, Aeros going into the second period.
In the second period of play, Westport would score two unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead over Athens, going into the third period.
Third period action, with Athens facing elimination, Cameron Brown tied the game 3-3, forcing overtime.
With Athens playing for their season and Westport looking to advance to the second round, there would be no scoring in the first overtime. We then needed double OT.
In double overtime, Aeros Dylan Stacey got his second of the game, on the power play and Athens won 4-3 the final score.
Athens has now tied the series 1-1 and have now forced a final game at home on Saturday at Centre 76. Puck drop is at 7:30 in Athens. Win or go home of both teams, its game three of a best of three series.
CLARENCE 2 WINCHESTER 1
RECAP:
Game one of a three game wildcard series was underway last night as the Beavers took on the Hawks in Clarence creek.
At the start of the first period, both teams had trouble scoring but Winchester finally got a break when Zach Cohan scored at 16:13. Assisted by Chris Lemay, Hawks would lead 1-0 going into the second period.
The second period had no scoring but both teams put a lot of shots on net. 14 for Clarence and 12 on net for Winchester, in the period.
In the third period, the Beavers Calvin Heffler scored two goals to lift Clarence over Winchester in the final frame. The Beavers held on for a 2-1 victory and are now one win away from a date with the Golden Knights on Monday. Game two of this series begins Friday night in Winchester at 8:15.
