Final Rankings in Favor of SCHC Teams

Date:  Source: Southern Collegiate Hockey Conference

The final rankings are in as of noontime today and the ACHA has spoken.  Four members of the Southern Collegiate Hockey Conference have advanced to the post-season for an opportunity to play for the ACHA DIII Championship.  Both Florida Gulf Coast University and The University of Tampa have earned the right to bypass regionals by earning the #1 and #2 (respectively) seeds in the South Region for the second consecutive year.

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles were able to retain their #1.  The Eagles finished the 2016-2017 season with a record of 22-3-0-1.  FGCU came into the SCHC championship tournament riding a thirteen game win streak and will look to continue their success upon arrival in Ohio.

The University of Tampa Spartans have once again claimed the #2 ranking and will be returning to nationals for the second time in the club’s six years of existence in the ACHA.   The team was propelled to the top of the ranks after a three game sweep of the SCHC Playoff Tournament last weekend.

The University of Central Florida Knights and The University of South Florida Bulls will continue play in the new rink in Wesley Chapel next weekend as they compete in the DIII South Regionals for an opportunity to join FGCU and UT in Columbus.

The Knights will be entering regionals as the #4 seed in the South and will take on #9 ranked Kennesaw State University on Friday night.  UCF is 1-0-1 against Kennesaw this season and will be looking to keep their winning record.

The USF Bulls earned their right to play in regionals after a huge upset against #1 FGCU during the SCHC Playoffs.  This win gave them the #8 seed in the South, squaring them up against The University of South Carolina Gamecocks.  USF will be hosting regionals this year along with The University of Tampa.  With the rink just minutes away from their campus, you can expect a large crowd in attendance for Friday night’s game.
