The three games played Saturday night in the Midwest Junior Hockey League showed just how competitive the league has become in 2013-14.
Kicking off the night at the Berkley Ice Arena, the hometown Bruins won their second straight against the Bloomington Jr. Blaze with a 3-1 win.
Adam Jonak scored on a penalty shot, Tim Muhsman scored short-handed and Steven Fowler tallied into an empty net for the Bruins.
Berkley goaltender Kory Dombrowski won his second game in a row with a 28-save outing, allowing just a goal to Craig Jarzen midway through the second period.
Goaltender Kent Nusbaum stopped 40 shots for the Jr. Blaze.
Then at the Northern Lights Arena, the visiting Detroit Fighting Irish erased a two-goal deficit and held on to beat the Alpena Street Cats by a 3-2 count.
Josh Arnold, Rob Speer and Ryan Krolikowski scored for Detroit and Chris Lewis stopped 22 shots in goal.
Vladislav Khasanov accounted for both Alpena goals, while Keegan McGraw and Aleksandr Shishkin combined for 37 saves in the Street Cats' crease.
Nick Murphy continued his torrid pace with three goals and two assists as the Soo Firehawks routed the Traverse City Hounds 8-2 at Centre ICE.
Steven Smoltz and Andrew Holder each had two goals and an assist for the Firehawks and Tyler Jones added a goal and a helper.
Cody Anderson, Connor McNary and Matt MacLaren chipped in two assists apiece and Anthony Benvenuti turned aside 29 shots in net.
Tyler Thirlby and Kevin Miloser scored Traverse City's goals and Bryce Goulah and Vladislav Graevski made 22 stops.
