Mahoney, a two-sport athlete in high school (baseball and basketball), was a two-time All-Area selection by the Norwich Bulletin as well as the New London Day. He was also a two-time All-ECC selection. Mahoney is an

exploratory major at UConn. His father, John, played at Davidson and Holy Cross. His uncle, John Shea, reached AAA baseball as a pitcher in

1990.
